Episode 31: Christmas Menus

Christmas Special Part 2 – What’s for Christmas Dinner?

In Part 2 of our ExtraVirgin Christmas Special, we talk Christmas food. Living in Australia, with a broad multicultural society, our Christmas meals are bound to be as varied as our background.

First, we talk to food writer Joanna Savill, who advocates swapping out the sparkling shiraz for a good quality Lambrusco and, slightly bizarrely, has a tradition of finishing off the family Christmas meal with a pineapple.

Then it’s Melissa Leong, one of the newly appointed presenters of Masterchef Australia 2020.

With her food-obsessed Singaporean heritage and an Italian chef husband, you can bet their Christmas celebrations will be far from ordinary!

Then we chat with the director of Wandering Cooks, a food business ‘incubator’.

As per the ethos of the business, Angela Hirst is sourcing her Christmas goodies from small, local, sustainable businesses.

At E’cco Bistro, Philip Johnson, will be doing it traditionally, albeit with an Aussie twist at the end. With almost 25 years at the helm of the landmark Brisbane restaurant, you can bet it’ll be Phillip in the kitchen on Christmas Day.

Your podcast hosts Natascha and Sam also have some great meals to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Natascha is looking forward to a beach Christmas with plenty of fresh seafood sourced by her brother who’s both a chef and a professional fisherman. She’s also got plans that involve a side of salmon and last year’s Christmas present – a hot smoker.

Meanwhile, Sam’s understandably jealous of Natascha’s fresh seafood connections. She has plans to keep it simple this year and stands by her recipe for glazed ham that sounds like a bad pizza.

Our guests really know their food so there’s plenty of inspiration to tuck into here. Click here to listen.
